<바늘귀를 통과한 부자> 김영봉 지음

교회 30대 직장인 모임에서
청부론과 청빈론. 그리스도인과 부에 대한 주제로 얘기를 나눴었다.

그래서 읽게 된 책이
<바늘귀를 통과한 부자>라는 책이다.

과연 이렇게 살 수 있을까 싶기도 했지만-
도전을 받은 내용도 많았다.

그 중에서도 마지막 장에서 인용한 "쉐이커 타운 서약(The Shakertown Pledge)"가 눈에 띄어 이곳에 적어 둔다.

The Shakertown Pledge was written on April 30, 1973 in a town near Lexington, Kentucky, which was historically connected to the Shaker Movement. The Pledge itself was a response to the inequality of distribution of global wealth and resources, and called for group action by Christians to rectify the problem.

Recognizing that Earth and the fullness thereof is a gift from our gracious God, and that we are called to cherish, nurture, and provide loving stewardship for Earth's resources, and recognizing that life itself is a gift, and a call to responsibility, joy, and celebration, I make the following declarations:

1. I declare myself a world citizen
2. I commit myself to lead an ecologically sound life.
3. I commit myself to lead a life of creative simplicity and to share my personal wealth with the world's poor.
4. I commit myself to join with others in the reshaping of institutions in order to bring about a more just global society in which all people have full access to the needed resources for their physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual growth.
5. I commit myself to occupational accountability, and so doing I will seek to avoid the creation of products which cause harm to others.
6. I affirm the gift of my body and commit myself to its proper nourishment and physical wellbeing.
7. I commit myself to examine continually my relations with others and to attempt to relate honestly, morally, and lovingly to those around me.
8. I commit myself to personal renewal through prayer, meditation, and study.
9. I commit myself to responsible participation in a community of faith.

국문:

나는 지구와 그 안에 있는 모든 것이 자비로운 우리 하나님의 선물임을 인정한다. 또한 나는 지구 자원을 귀중히 여기고 보호하며 애정깊은 보살핌을 제공하도록 부름받았음을 빋는다.
더 나아가 나는 생명 자체가 선물이며 동시에 책임과 기쁜과 축제를 위한 부르심임을 믿는다. 이런 믿음에 근거하여 나는 다음과 같이 선언한다.
1. 나는 세계 시민임을 선언한다.
2. 나는 생태계와 조화를 이루는 건전한 삶을 살기로 다짐한다.
3. 나는 단순한 삶을 창조적으로 살고 내 개인적 부를 세계의 가난한 사람과 공유하기로 다짐한다.
4. 나는 사회 제도를 변혁함으로 좀더 정의로운 사회를 만들어 모든 사람들이 육체적, 정서적, 정신적, 영적 성장을 위해 필요한 자원들을 자유롭게 사용할 수 있도록 하기 위해 다른 사람들과 협력할 것을 다짐한다.
5. 나는 내 직업에 따르는 책임을 다함으로 다른 사람들에게 해를 끼치는 제품 생산을 피하도록 힘쓸 것을 다짐한다.
6. 나는 내 몸이 하나님의 선물임을 믿고 적당한 영양을 공급하여 건강을 유지하도록 힘쓸 것을 다짐한다.
7. 나는 다른 사람과의 관계를 지속적으로 살핌으로 내 주변에 있는 사람들에게 정직하게, 윤리적으로 그리고 사람 깊은 마음으로 대할 것을 다짐한다.
8. 나는 기도와 묵상과 연구를 통해 개인적 갱신에 힘쓸 것을 다짐한다.
9. 나는 신앙 공동체에 책임있게 참여할 것을 다짐한다.

정말로 내게 필요하지 않은 것을, 마치 필요한 것인양 누리고 사는 것이 아닌지...
내려 놓아야 할 것이 많다.

번 것을 절약해서, 내 배를 채우는 것이 아니라 남을 위해 필요한 곳에 써야 할 것이다.....
